Public Ministry seeks 20 years against Matías Avelino Castro for murder of Jose Silvestre

The Public Ministry is asking for a 20 year sentence for Matías Avelino Castro, accused in the murder of journalist José Silvestre in San Pedro de Macorís in a drug related crime. The Public Ministry has had to pursue the case without the cooperation of the victim’s family. Castro is accused of violation of articles 265, 266, 295, 296, 297, 298 of the Criminal Code and Law 72-02 on Asset Laundering and Law 8-92 on identity. The Public Ministry is also seeking a payment of restitution equivalent to 250 minimum wages.

Silvestre was murdered in 2011, but seven years later, the court case has not concluded.
