Judge Alejandro Vargas ordered pretrial custody for Estrella Barriola Varela, general manager of the Don Metal SRL company. She is accused of issuing fake invoices for illicit tax deductions. She was sent to justice by the Tax Agency (DGII). Don Metal had a structure for tax evasion resulting in estimated losses of more than RD$1 billion.
