A new round of scholarships have been announced by the Inicia Educación non-profit for programs at the Masters level on issues relating to education. The scholarships include just about everything — tuition, room and board, travel, books, and even medical insurance. Applicants must be Dominicans and reside in the Dominican Republic. Applications are to be made through the LASPAU website.
A score of at least 80 on the Internet version of the TOEFL exam is also required together with a commitment to return to the country for at least two years after the studies are completed.
According to a press release, the idea is that the scholarship recipients become part of the Dominican educational system and create a network of new talent and bring new ideas to the system.
Already some 22 Dominicans have taken part in this program, and have studied at such well-known universities as Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Duke and the University of Wisconsin.
