President Danilo Medina inaugurated a first military owned uniforms factory in Bonao on Thursday, 2 August 2018. Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Ruben Dario Paulino Sem, said that the factory is part of the Institutional Strategic Plan 2017-2020 of the Ministry. The new factory will supply more than 200,000 uniforms and other products to the Ministry, reportedly at a lower cost than that secured from private suppliers in the past. In addition to uniforms, the factory will produce backpacks for the military.
The Industria Militar de Monseñor Nouel is located in a 2,200 square meter facility and has the capacity to employ 140 operators.
The Ministry announced a second facility would be built in San Cristobal, with 1,050 square meters.
