
The Board of the Judicial Branch has notified National District Judge Patricia Padilla that she has been suspended until an investigation concludes. She is being investigated for having allowed two suspected drug dealers to go free.
The measure was taken after the judge declared a request for recusal to be admissible, which was made by the Prosecutor for the appeal court, Moisés Cordones Rodríguez.
The case involved two people linked to 500 kilos of cocaine and the judge having concluded that the time limit to bring formal charges in the case had expired, forced the Public Prosecution Service to abandon the case without making a formal accusation.
The Board of the Judicial Branch has asked the Prosecutor’s Office for a copy of the files to conduct its own investigation as to whether judicial action was appropriate
