Aerolíneas Argentinas is now flying once a week from Córdoba International Airport (COR) to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), making it easier for Argentinean tourists to enjoy the beaches of Punta Cana. This is the airline’s second route to Punta Cana. The airline already flies direct from Buenos Aires International Airport. A B737 Max 8 is used for the flight.
Aerolíneas Argentinas corporate executives came for the inaugural flight last week. A press release says others on the flight were Rhina Olivares, director of the Dominican Tourism Office for Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay; Cecilia Donadille, commercial director for Aerolíneas Argentinas in Córdoba and Silvia Fischer, community relations.
Olivares said on the occasion of the arrival of the first Aerolíneas Argentinas Cordoba-Punta Cana flight that 33,362 visitors had arrived from Argentina to the Dominican Republic in the first half of 2018.
Cecilia Donadille, speaking for Aerolíneas Argentinas, said that the new frequency makes it easy for sun-seeking tourists from Salta, Tucumán or Neuquén fly to the Caribbean without having to make a stopover in Buenos Aires. A distance of 696 kms separates both cities. It is expected that 45% of the domestic passengers the airline carries will connect via the Cordoba Aerolíneas Argentinas hub.
The inaugural flight came with tour operators, travel agents and journalists that were taken to tour the Punta Cana area, and its neighboring areas, La Romana and Juan Dolio. The demand for the destination is expected to increase in the upcoming months when the southern hemisphere enters its summer holiday period.
