Manuel Rivas, former director of the Metropolitan Bus Services Office (Omsa) was admitted to Cedimat medical center in Santo Domingo on Sunday, 9 September 2018, as reported in Listin Diario. The reasons for his hospitalization were not mentioned. Rivas is serving a year of preventive custody at the Najayo Jail as a suspect in the murder of lawyer and university professor Yuniol Ramírez on 11 October 2018. His defense lawyer has requested his release on grounds that he suffers from prostate cancer.
