
Jose Hazim Torres, rector of the Universidad Central del Este, the most important university in southeastern San Pedro de Macorís, announced the instatement of the Frank Rainieri Tourism Chair at the university. The Chair honors Frank Rainieri, founder of the Grupo Puntacana and tourism pioneer in the country. The UCE offers the career in tourism at its main campus in San Pedro de Macoris.
The chair in its first activity is inviting the CEO and director general of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, Frank Comito, for a talk. The talk will be on Wednesday, 26 September 2018, at the Westin Puntacana at the Puntacana Resort & Club. It is part of the UCE Tourism Week that will be happening from 21-28 September, coinciding with the World Tourism Day on 27 September. The event also includes a weeklong trade show open to the general public at the university.

Friday, 21 September: “Development of Ecotourism in the Dominican Republic” with sustainable tourism expert Bolívar Troncoso.
Tuesday, 25 September, Pilar Constanzo will speak on “Tourism and New Trends: Technology and Digital Marketing”.
Friday, 28 September, chef Solangel Velázquez will speak on “Dominican Gastronomy as a Country Brand”.
The participation of the Ministry of Tourism folklore ballet is scheduled for Friday, 28 September as of 3pm at the student activity center at the UCE.
The event follows the National Hotel & Tourism Association (Asonahores) Trade Exhibition that will be taking place from 19-21 September 2018 at the Blue Mall Punta Cana.
