
The Embassy of Spain is backing local efforts to present the sixth edition of the “Semanas de España en la República Dominicana,” the cultural event spanning the months of October and November. The event is held to strengthen the permanent ties between Spain and the Dominican Republic.
On the agenda are cultural, academic and social activities in the cities of Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, Baní and Bonao. The calendar of events is featured on the Spanish Embassy website and that of the Centro Cultural de España, the main cultural center. On Instagram, it is listed as “la Cultura Une”.
The activities start on 9 October with the presentation of the Bohio Flamenco show at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. The show merges flamenco with tango, bolero and son, as choreographed by Adriana Lopez (La Pimienta).
The art exhibition “El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz / La Flauta Doble by painter Pablo Picasso, will be shown at the Centro Cultural Perelló in Baní. Dominican students are then being encouraged to participate in the cubism painting contest sponsored by the Embassy of Spain in collaboration of the Universidad APEC (UNAPEC).
Within the VII Semana Internacional de la Poesía, activities will be held to honor the 50 years of the death of Spanish poet León Felipe.
There will be also presentation of classics of Spanish cinema shown at the Cinemateca Dominicana in collaboration with Funglode during October. These include films by Luis Buñuel.
And this year, the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro Infantil y Juvenil (FITIJ) will include the performances of three Spanish companies.
Spain is guest country for the Photoimagen, the largest photography festival in the country. There will be photography exhibitions in October and November with Juan Manuel Díaz Burgos, Jorge Lens, Alberto García Alix, and Dominican Belkiss Adrover de Cibrán. The exhibitions are curated by Jesús Micó.
