Congress approved last week the opening of a new justice of peace in the touristic municipality of Verón-Punta Cana. This will make weddings in the area easier. In the past, the judge presiding over the weddings in Punta Cana had to travel from the city of Higuey.
Deputy Juan Julio Campos Ventura (PLD-La Altagracia) is responsible for pushing through the bill that creates the new justice of peace office. He argued that Verón has experienced notable economic growth, mainly due to the bonanza of the tourism sector. The justice of peace will service the increasing local population and visiting tourists.
Punta Cana is the leading tourism destination of the Dominican Republic.
