After many years, the National Zoo of the Dominican Republic has announced the birth of a baby bison, the first one to ever be born in this country. The National Zoo put up a video of the bison cow during birth and witnessed by several other members of the herd. Manuel Hichiez, one of the vets at the zoo, observes the birth and said the new baby is a male. The bison is a very large bovine, which once lived in huge herds throughout North America and Europe. The number of bison has fallen greatly because of a loss of habitat and illegal hunting for its meat and hide.
