Businessman and politician José Rafael Abinader died on Sunday, 4 November 2018 at around 6:45am. He suffered from liver cancer. Abinader is the founder of the Universidad Dominicana O&M University. He served as minister of finance and senator to Santiago.
He is the father of the former presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader.
“The death was caused by health complications that the senior Abinader had been enduring in recent times,” reported a press release from his son, Luis Abinader, former presidential candidate for the PRM.
