The Center for Education and Development (Ceduca) says that 55.3% of youths looking for work in Greater Santo Domingo have not been able to find a job. Most of the jobless youths live in Santo Domingo East.
Isidro Pérez Polanco of Ceduca says this includes the “ninis” or youths that do not study and do not work. He demanded better policies for youths to find that first job to give them the working experience to continue in the market place. He said most who are working will only find jobs in the informal sector. He said the lack of opportunities for youth causes an increase in delinquency and teenage pregnancies.
