The Dominican Republic signed for full diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China on 1 May 2018 in Beijing. A Source told Listin Diario that the Medina administration will be opening three consulates in China to meet Dominican citizen needs. The first will open in Shanghai. Other consulates would be located in the capital city of Beijing and in Guangzhou in southern China, from where most Chinese that live in the Dominican Republic are from. Guangzhou is the third largest Chinese city.
During his first official visit to China earlier this month, President Danilo Medina opened the Dominican Embassy in Beijing with Briunny Garabito Segura named the first Dominican ambassador to China.
