He had been feverish for two weeks but still had plans for Thanksgiving, but didn’t make it. The 47-year old first Dominican-American New York State senator, José R. Peralta was taken on Wednesday, 21 November in the evening to Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens where he died. It is expected that an autopsy will determine the causes of his death. Peralta had lost his re-election bid in September after serving for eight years in the State Senate and another eight years in the state Assembly before that representing Queens. He was set to leave office at the end of December.
