Air passenger traffic at the nation’s international airports reached 12,143,175 passengers from January to October 2018, according to the Civil Aviation Board (JAC). This is an increase of 5.28% over last year, meaning 607,959 more travelers in 2018 than during the same period in 2017. Travel in October 2018 alone was 939,892, up 4% when compared to October 2017.
JAC estimates that volume of travelers should reach a record 14.5 million by December 2018, around 700,000 more than in 2017.
54% of all air travel has entered or departed via the Punta Cana International Airport. Las Americas International in Santo Domingo had the second highest traffic at 25.6%.
JetBlue is the leading air carrier to the country, transporting 21% of all passengers. Next in volume are Delta Airlines, American Airlines, Copa, United Airlines, Southwest, Avianca, Thomsonfly, Azur Air and Air Europa.
According to the JAC, the top most trafficked routes are:
New York to Las Americas in Santo Domingo
New York to El Cibao in Santiago.
Panamá to Punta Cana
Las Americas to Miami
Toronto to Punta Cana
Punta Cana to Madrid
Las Americas to Atlanta
Punta Cana to New York
Punta Cana to Lima
