Public debt is at record high in 18 years

The public debt in the Dominican Republic is 51.6% of the Gross Domestic Product, according to official records, as a headline story reports in Diario Libre. The non-financial public debt and the Central Bank debt are calculated to be US$40.64 billion, which does not include the US$3.85 billion in additional debt accumulated so far this year. Foreign creditors represent 27.5% of the GDP, or US$21.65 billion. Domestic debt is at 24.1% of the GDP, or US$18.99 billion.

The non-financial public debt is at US$31.45 billion as of 31 October 2018, which accounts for 39.9% of GDP.
