Several city governments have accumulated a debt of more than RD$6 billion with the social security treasury and now are requesting amnesty in the form of an amendment in upcoming changes to Social Security Law 87-01. Among the city governments requesting debt relief is San Cristobal, that is in arrears for more than RD$1.2 billion with the TSS. The president of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu), Rafael Hidalgo, has said that this means that the city government employees have been excluded from pension plan system.
