Transcontinental Capital (Bermuda), an affiliate of Seaboard Corporation, has awarded a contract for the SCC-800 2x1C SeaFloat barge-mounted floating power plant in the Dominican Republic jointly to Siemens and the marine arm of ST Engineering in Singapore. Siemens is supplying the combined cycle power plant with capacity to generate 145MW and ST Engineering is providing services in engineering design, procurement and construction.
The new mobile floating power plant is called Estrella del Mar III and will be located on the Ozama River in Santo Domingo. It will cost US$100 million and will be powered by natural gas and will enter into operation in 2021. Siemens highlights the enabling of floating power with their latest, highly efficient gas turbine frames.
