
A shipment arrived on Monday, 10 December 2018, with a cargo of 38,516 metric tons of coal to be used for the synchronization and tests of the first unit of the Punta Catalina thermoelectric plant starting in January 2019. The shipment was dispatched by the US Xcoal Energy & Resources to the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE). Xcoal recently was contracted to provide the 642,000 metric tons of coal to be used in the start of operations of the plant.
Executive vice president of the CDEEE, Rubén Jiménez Bichara, said that in the next few days another public bid would be held for the purchase of 788,000 metric tons for the second unit of the plant.
