The Leones del Escogido and the Toros del Este will play starting 7:15pm at the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo to decide which of the two teams will match the Estrellas Orientales in the 2018-2019 Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship playoffs. The extra game was scheduled for the Quisqueya Ball Park to decide the tie between the two teams.
The playoffs then start on Thursday, 17 January 2019 at the Tetelo Vargas Ball Park, home to the Estrellas Orientales that won the regular season and the first slot in the playoffs. The Estrellas seek to break the curse that has kept them from winning the championship for the past 50 years, despite making the playoffs on 17 occasions. The Estrellas seek their third championship. They have not won since the 1967-68 season, exactly 50 years ago.
