The Estrellas Orientales of San Pedro de Macoris are the favorite to win, but nothing is decided yet as the Toros del Este of La Romana, under Arturo de Freites, are sure to put up a worthy fight for the 2018-2019 Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship. The Estrellas won the regular season 29-21 and the round robin 11-7.
The playoffs are scheduled to go to the first team that wins five of the nine scheduled games. The calendar runs from 17 January to 27 January 2019. The winning team will then represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series set for 2-8 February 2019 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
This is the seventh final by the Estrellas Orientales that have not won a tournament in 50 years. The Toros won the championship for 2010-11 against the same Estrellas Orientales. They won that championship 5-0.
