A former president of the Dominican Social Security Institute (IDSS), Dr. Carlos Roa expressed concern that the Medina administration has abandoned the 20 hospitals and 29 clinics of the IDSS system so that these lose value and leads him to wonder if the intention is that these structures will eventually be sold to the private sector for the price of “dead cows.” The IDSS hospitals were transferred to the National Health Service (SNS) in a process that began in 2015 and was completed in the beginning of 2019. Roa said that the SNS has practically left the medical establishments in oblivion. The remarks are made following a report in Listin Diario on the deteriorating of the Calle Las Mercedes former IDSS polyclinic in the Colonial City.
