
Minister of Hacienda, Administrative Minister of the Presidency and Minister of Economy rejected the decision by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) by which the Dominican government would need to pick up most of the cost for the organization of the primaries for the political parties to choose their candidates for the 2020 general election. The JCE has committed to cover around RD$1.25 billion of the estimated RD$1.5 billion cost of the simultaneous primaries that are set for 6 October 2019.
During a meeting held on Monday, 11 February 2019 at the JCE, five political parties (PLD, PRM, PRD, Al Pais, Opción Democrática) again agreed that the JCE lobby for the around RD$1.25 billion needed from the central government.
