
President Danilo Medina returned on Friday, 15 February 2019 to the Dominican Republic after his four-day trip to Italy (11-15 February) to attend the 42nd International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Governing Council held in Rome. At the Governing Council meeting, President Danilo Medina presented details of his Surprise Visits Program to support sustainable rural development.
Furthermore, when reporting on the trip, the Presidency announced the IFAD will be assisting the Dominican government with a US$34.6 million fund for rural initiatives that back women and youth groups. The president of IFAD, Gilbert Houngbo and other high-ranking officers of the United Nations agency will visit in March to discuss the project.
While in Rome, President Medina also met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The Presidency now announces that Italian government officers would soon travel to Santo Domingo to follow up with agreements on justice, extradition, cinematography, environmental cooperation, agriculture, agro energy sectors, and government digital initiatives.
