Robinson Chalapud wins Vuelta Independencia

Representing Medellín, Colombia, world-class cyclist Robinson Chalapud won the 40th National Independence Cycling Tour that ended on Sunday, 3 March 2019 in the city of Santiago. His team also finished first.

Some of the best cyclists from the Caribbean, Central America and South America participated in the race. The seven-day stage race took cyclists throughout the country. It is part of the America Tour 2019 (UCI class 2.2) and allows cyclists to earn points towards qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ismael Sánchez was the best for the Dominican Republic, ending in 5th place.
