
Show business’s big night is tonight. The El Soberano Awards are being televised from 6pm on Telemicro, Channel 5. A pre-show is set for 6pm to be followed with the red carpet show from 7-8pm and the actual awards ceremony starts at 8pm.
The red carpet hosts this year are Luz García, Reading Pantanelón and Jhoel López in a production by Pinky Pintor. Alberto Zayas is the general producer and the host of the El Soberano Awards is Miriam Germán.
The El Soberano Awards are the most important entertainment industry event in the Dominican Republic. They are a snapshot of what is “in” in the Dominican show business.
The ceremony is televised from the National Theater in Santo Domingo. The awards are delivered in 48 categories. This is the 35th edition of the awards.
Highlights of the show this year include performances by religious performer Lilly Goodman and salsa legend, Gilberto Santa Rosa. Guest international performers in addition to Santa Rosa include Mexican Daniel Habif, an inspirational speaker; urban artists Kany García, Bad Bunny and merengue singer Elvis Crespo. There will be shows with Javier Grullón, Chiquito Team Band, La Marimba, Riciie Oriach and Gran Poder de Diosa. Bachata performers include Hector Acosta, Alexandra, Joe Veras, Luis Segura and Vakero. Merengue segments will be with Alex Bueno and Ala Jaza. Salsa will also be represented by Yiyo Sarante. Urban music performances are booked with El Alfa and La Insuperable.
The awards are organized by Acroarte, the entertainment writers’ guild, with the backing of the Cervecería Nacional Dominicana, the Presidente beer brewery.
