Pre-construction works begin on Puerto Plata mixed port

Land and structural studies for the construction of a multimodal port in Puerto Plata city began this week, announced Julio Martínez of the Grupo ITM in charge of the construction. The port is scheduled to be in operation by the end of 2020 and will primarily serve the tourism sector. A Mexican company won the tender for the construction of the north coast port. Dominican engineer Miguel Angel Jiménez Messón (Chío) says the construction contemplates the construction of a trap for sediments from the San Marcos River.

The port is contemplated for cargo and cruise ship traffic.
