Singer and composer-turned politician, Manuel Jiménez, announced he has joined the Revolutionary Modern Party (PRM) and seeks to run on that party’s ticket for mayor for Santo Domingo East. In 2016 he was a pre-candidate for the ruling PLD.
Jiménez is best known for his composition “Derroche de Amor” (sung by Ana Belen, Julio Iglesias and Lupita D’Alessio) but his heart is in being city mayor. He had run for the post on the ticket of a coalition of minority parties. Previously he served for three consecutive terms as deputy for the ruling PLD. His campaign spot urges the organization to rid itself of “all that is bad” and those corrupt within the party to build a better country.
