Take the Sea Cloud to Santo Domingo and ride history

Few people know the historic significance behind the Sea Cloud, the luxury windjammer that sails between Europe and Santo Domingo. A voyage this year is scheduled for 24 November 2019, with the ship departing from Las Palmas/Gran Canaria in Spain and arriving to Santo Domingo on 20 December 2019.

There is a shorter version of the same trip that can be booked departing instead from Praia Harbor in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde Islands, on 3 December 2019, with arrival in Santo Domingo on the same 20 December 2019.

Investigative TV journalist Nuria Piera recently shared with her local audience a video of the tall ship made by Alec Corday that tells the ship’s story. The video highlights how the luxury yacht made US history when it became the first US Navy ship to enforce race integration on board. Later, it made history as the playground for Dictator Rafael Trujillo and his infamous son Ramfis, as well as the latter’s close friend, international playboy Porfirio Rubirosa.
