Books, books and more books in the Colonial City

As of Friday, 26 April 2019, venues in the Colonial City will open their doors to Dominican book lovers. Bookstores will be participating in the Feria Internacional del Libro Santo Domingo (FILSD) 2019, the annual city book fair. Now in its 22nd year, this year’s fair is dedicated to Dominican writer Virgilio Díaz Grullón, and Puerto Rico is the guest country.

For the occasion, museums, churches, cultural centers, businesses and historic attractions will be presenting exhibitions, talks, conferences, workshops and space for the sale of books.

Plaza España will host government institutions and foundations. There will be a stage for artistic presentations, drama and musical concerts. The Museo de las Casas Reales will be hosting the Café Bohemio with its master classes and talks.

Puerto Rico, the guest country, has been assigned to present at the Capilla de los Remedios on Calle Las Damas.

The Casa de los Jesuitas, on Calle Mercedes corner Calle Las Damas, will host a stand for Dominican authors. Nearby, the Centro Banreservas on Calle Isabel la Católica is presenting an exhibition reminding Dominicans about the essayist and writer, Virgilio Díaz Grullón, and his important contributions to Dominican literature.

Bookshops will be centered primarily at the Fortaleza de Santo Domingo on Calle Las Damas, where some government institutions will also have their stands.

Young people have been given a space at the Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plásticos on Calle El Conde.

The Academia de Ciencias, on Calle Las Damas, will host a hall for presentations by universities.

The Ministry of Education has set up a children’s area at the Casa de Bastidas, off from the Columbus Park. The auditorium of the Archbishop Office will be used for several educational presentations by the Ministry of Education.

The Museo de las Telecomunicaciones will be using its auditorium and spaces off Plaza España and Calle Isabel la Católica for theatrical presentations.
