Miguel Vargas Maldonado: PRD is being reset

The president of the PRD political party, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, called on Thursday, 25 April 2019, for the government and opposition to listen to the recent warning of the Roman Catholic Church Archbishop Francisco Ozoria that the country is headed to a dictatorship. “We must all listen to the positions of all sectors, analyze them and take the most appropriate decisions at the given moment,” said Vargas Maldonado when questioned by journalists about the differences between the Catholic Church and the government.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting of the party’s political committee, Vargas said that while the party has petitioned the Constitutional Court to reverse the annulment of the 2015 party convention in which he was elected president of the party. Vargas has called the annulment decision by the Higher Electoral Court (TSE) “unfair and abusive,” but says that procedures have in parallel begun for the celebration of a convention to confirm who are the party’s leaders.
