Throughout their political careers the two leaders of the ruling PLD, President Danilo Medina, age 67, and former President Leonel Fernández, age 65, both have sported mustaches, with most Dominicans unable to remember either of them as clean-shaven. Now, Fernández has removed his mustache. The change is seen as a way to look younger and upgrade his image now that he is competing for the PLD presidential nomination.
