
Ministry of Public Works brigades were hard at work in Boca Chica to remove tons of sargassum that invaded the beach located east of Santo Domingo city. As reported 70% of the seaweed has been cleared.
The director general of the Highway Maintenance Program of the Ministry of Public Works, Colonel Douglas Borrell said that the brigades had been working since Monday on the extraction of the sargassum and has removed more than 70 tons. He said they are using rakes to remove as little of the sand as possible and not affect the beach.
He said the seaweed has also affected the Playa de los Muertos in San Pedro de Macoris and beaches in Barahona, as it moved to the west.
