
On Sunday, 14 July 2019, President Danilo Medina visited the Monte Grande Dam under construction in southwestern Barahona province. He was accompanied by the director of the National Water Resources Institute (Indrhi), Olgo Fernández, and local authorities. The dam will supply drinking water, green energy and irrigation water for 700,000 tareas (1 tarea = 629 square meters).
After the visit to the dam, President Danilo Medina carried out his 257th surprise visit, this time to the Las Salinas area of Los Saladillos, in the same Barahona province. The objective of the visit was to listen to proposals for an increase in the production of plantains, yucca and other crops for 175 agricultural producers of the area under the Canal Saladillo Farm Association. The farmers want to increase the farming area to 12,000 tareas from 5,000 tareas.
