Since the announcement by President Danilo Medina that he would not be standing again for the Presidency, rumors are circulating that Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia might throw his hat into the ring.
The President, in a last-minute address to the nation on Tuesday, 23 July 2019, stated that now is the time to inject new blood into politics. There is speculation that since Garcia has been the campaign head for both Leonel Fernandez and Danilo Medina, he has the experience to promote his own aspirations.
