
The International Triathlon Xterra Samaná will take place in the province of Samaná from 31 August to 1 September 2019. The elite event is a qualifier for the World Triathlon Cup in Maui, Hawaii.
Athletes will compete in several events. These are the 1,500m swim, 30km bike and 10km run. Also the sprint category that includes a 750m, 15km bike, and 5km run. There will be three trail run competitions: half marathon (21km), 10km run and 5km run.
The event puts Samaná on the global triathlon map, say organizers Rosanna Pelaez and Manuel Medrano.
Participants will be staying at the Viva Wyndham V Samaná, Cosón Bay and Sublima Samaná hotels in Las Terrenas. Speaking for the hotels, sponsor Rafael Blanco Tejera says the event is evidence of the growing international interest in sport tourism in the Dominican Republic.
