Ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) pre-candidate Francisco Domínguez Brito received the backing of leading environmentalists, scientists and ecologists. The support comes as a result of the ties he made during his term at the Ministry of Environment. Domínguez Brito is accredited with having taken many actions that had been avoided by his predecessors in order not to tamper with the establishment. He resigned the position to campaign for President.
Ecologists stated that Domínguez Brito held firm during his term in the Ministry of Environment, fighting against interests and powerful groups that have reaped much wealth at the expense of the conservation of natural resources.
The group recognized Domínguez Brito for his defense of the environment.
