Colonel José Luis Frometa of the Santo Domingo Firemen says there are only material damages after a fire affected Torre Atiemar on Av. Pedro Henríquez Ureña. The fire at the high rise began around 7am in the first floor where the gym is located. There are only three apartments occupied in the luxury building, according to El Dia.
Torre Atiemar was built by Spaniard Arturo del Tiempo who was arrested in Spain in 2010 accused of attempting to smuggle in 1,200 kilos of cocaine that were shipped from the Dominican Republic. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The firemen reported that the fire could be seen up to the 18th floor because the smoke went up by the air-conditioning duct.
The firemen reported there were no human losses. The damages are yet to be quantified.
