Main avenues and side streets in Santiago were re-paved not too long ago. Then hundreds, if not thousands, of maintenance holes were left uncovered some even at a depth of 2”-3” below the level of the new roadways. This, in turn, created a series of deep potholes for drivers of all sorts of vehicles. There have been many accidents when people swerve to avoid the holes.
Recently, the Santiago Water and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan) has eliminated some 500 of these impediments to traffic flow, bringing the utility hole covers up to the level of the new pavement. The work cost RD$1,315,000. The work will certainly ease the tension caused by these below-the-surface sewer covers.
