Candidates have to register income and expenditure

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has ruled that all of the pre-candidates and candidates for the upcoming elections need to register their income and spending during the pre-campaign period.

The registration should be carried out using the digital platform of the JCE, and each person involved will be given a user name and password.

This is obligatory and the financial information has to be entered and then published on time, in compliance with the Law for Free Access to Public Information.

The spending limits vary depending on the post aspired to, and are based on the number of voters in the particular area of the aspirant.

At the presidential level, RD$70 per person is allowed; RD$60 at the congressional level; municipal, RD$50 for mayors and RD$25 for councilors; and in municipal district it is RD$100 for directors and RD$25 for the spokesman.

The individual contributions carried out by the pre candidates and cannot be more than 1% of the set limits and if donations do not reach the limit the candidate can invest his or her own money until the limit is reached.
