13 physicians sent to reinforce children’s hospital

The Ministry of Public Health appointed new physicians to the staff of the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Santo Domingo. The hospital has been overwhelmed by patients due to an outbreak of dengue, the mosquito-borne tropical disease. Media reports say that any day there can be 40 children interned with the disease. A new hall at the hospital has been habilitated to care for dengue patients.

Four pediatricians, 15 nurses, four general practitioners, two surgeons, an infectious diseases specialist, an orthopedist, gastroenterologist, and other staff at the hospital were added to the staff at the Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital.

On the day before their appointment, Vice President Margarita Cedeño had visited and reported that the situation at the hospital was difficult, and demand was more than the medical staff could handle.
