China is more than interested in Haiti. A report in the South China Morning Post says that China is willing if the Port-au-Prince government “can uphold the one-China principle.” As reported, the People’s Republic of China would be offering “interest-free loans and concessional loans” to Haiti. Haiti is one of just 17 countries that main diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The Dominican Republic signed in 2018.
The SCM Post reports that in an interview with Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste last week, Wang Xiangyang, head of China’s office of commercial development in Haiti, delivered Beijing’s opening bid.
The political, social and economic crisis in Haiti has direct effects on the Dominican Republic.
