
The Ministry of Agriculture identified the Sur Profundo (Pedernales, Barahona, Jimani and La Descubierta), and the Línea Noroeste (Dajabon, Santiago Rodriguez and Valverde) as new cacao growing areas. Resolution 209-63 calls for assisting producers with modern production technologies for the sustained growth of cacao. The government is funding the installation of nurseries, low-cost seedlings for producers, cloning stations, and the implementation of best-growing practices for cacao farming. The ministry will be distributing the latest hybrids to farmers as well as teaching the newest grafting techniques.
