
The Dominican army has announced additional patrols were sent to cover the 391 kilometers of the border with Haiti. Special forces were sent to the border, given the violent disturbances currently taking place in Haiti. The military is working in coordination with the Dominican Armada that is patrolling the coasts of Manzanillo and Pedernales.
Due to the acute fuel shortages in their own country, Haitians are increasingly attempting to fuel up by crossing the border into the Dominican Republic. Dozens were seen crossing the border and gathering around a petrol station in Dajabon, the capital city of the Dajabon province in the Dominican Republic, on the border with Haiti.
Extended blackouts and fuel shortages have worsened in Haiti, feeding anger at President Jovenel Moise’s government after the collapse of a supply deal with Venezuela last year.
