
President Danilo Medina delivered the remodeled Juan Pablo Pina Hospital in San Cristobal on Monday, 23 September 2019. The public hospital is a regional teaching hospital. The Medina administration reports investing RD$353 million in the reconstruction and equipping of the 150-bed hospital. The construction was under the Office of Engineers Supervisors of State Works (OISOE). It mainly serves the populations in San Cristóbal, Peravia and San José de Ocoa provinces.
Public Health Minister Dr. Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas; the director of the National Health Service, Chanel Rosa Chupany; and Dr. Ivanhoe Vladimir Balbuena, director of the Juan Pablo Pina Hospital were present. San Cristóbal Governor Julio César Díaz Rosario and Senator Tommy Galán, and San Cristóbal Mayor José Nelson Guillén also attended.
In his keynote speech, the director of the OISOE, Francisco Pagan Rodriguez called the hospital a benchmark of the national health system. It meets the standards required by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (Mispas) and also the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
