Sergio Gomez Díaz to be extradited to answer to drug charges

A local court is paving the way for the extradition of Sergio Gomez Díaz, accused by the US Justice of being part of the Cesar Emilio Peralta Drug Trafficking Operation. The decision by the Fourth Collegiate Court of the National District will enable his extradition case to be heard in the Supreme Court of Justice.

Gomez Díaz is accused of drug trafficking and asset laundering. Gómez Díaz’s lawyer Félix Damián Olivares said that the removal of the charges was done in an irregular way, but his client will not appeal and will accept the extradition to face charges in the US justice system. Others that have voluntarily preferred to be extradited were Baltazar Mesa and José Jesús Tapia who described as US justice being better to them.

Dozens of drug traffickers that have been extradited to the United States have reached deals with the US judiciary and then returned to the Dominican Republic to enjoy their fortunes.
