
Mayjo Gutiérrez, director of the Sigma Dos polling company, announced results of a recent poll that shows Gonzalo Castillo defeating three-time President Leonel Fernández 40.6% to 34.7% if the primary were held on the day of the survey.
Gutiérrez says the results show that of those polled, 55.4% said they plan to vote in the primary, 39.9% says they will not vote, and 4.6% did not give an answer.
44.3% reported the opinion that Castillo would do a good government, compared to 35.2% who said the same for Fernández. The negative opinions were higher on Fernández with 59.2% compared to 43.4% for Castillo.
Six of every 10 Dominicans (58.7%) considers that Fernández should not have run for office.
The poll revealed that 48.2% consider the spending in political propaganda is adequate, compared with 45.8% consider the spending excessive.
When asked about the spending by Gonzalo Castillo, 47.3% say it is adequate, and 43.3% say it is excessive.
Sigma Dos poll showed that 61.8% of Dominicans rated the Medina government as good (12.8% very good and 49% good), while 34.5% has a negative opinion (22% bad and 12.5% very bad).
The poll was carried out 19-21 September 2019 with a 1,200 people sample and a margin of error of 2.8%.
