The Supreme Court of Justice announced it is postponing the case involving six persons charged in the US$92 million Odebrecht bribes scandal until Tuesday, 8 October 2019. The postponement comes after the judges accepted the medical leave of absence presented by Angel Rondón, the Odebrecht commercial representative in the country. Rondón says he injured his arm playing tennis. His doctors have ordered a ten-day rest period so he can recover the injury of his left shoulder. The case hearing requires the presence of the six accused.
The accused are charged with expediting the contracting of 17 infrastructure works by the Brazilian construction company. In addition to Rondón, the other defendants are former Minister of Public Works Victor Diaz Rua; his alleged frontman, attorney Conrado Pittaluga Arzeno; San Cristóbal Senator Tommy Galan, former Senate President Andres Bautista and former director of the National Drinking Water Institute, Juan Roberto Rodriguez.
