The value of gold exports has increased by 9.3% from January to August 2019 over the same period last year. Gold prices are up, reflecting global economic uncertainties.
According to the Customs Agency (DGA), overseas sales totaled US$934.48 million, or around US$80 million more than in August last year. Looking at volume, the number of kilograms exported increased by 37.1% to nearly 30,000 kilograms this year.
The price of gold is now around US$1,500 an ounce, the highest in six years, and some 21.6% higher than October last year. This means more revenues for the government. The Barrick Pueblo Viejo gold mine has paid the state US$1,685 million in direct and indirect taxes.
